ASBK: Curtain claims Queensland Supersport clean sweep

Kevin Curtain has won the second race of the InsureMyRide Australian Supersport Championship at Queensland Raceway this afternoon, sealing the overall victory for the round in Yamaha’s return to ASBK racing.

The former World Supersport runner-up won both legs of today’s 16-lap Supersport duals, the second leg proving a massive battle between Curtain and current Supersport title leader Troy Herfoss.

Curtain, Herfoss and YRT young gun Rick Olson battled in the early stages before it became a two-horse race in the final laps, with Curtain eventually winning by 1.656 seconds after a last lap pass from Herfoss saw him run wide on the final turn.

“That was hard racing – the hardest racing I’ve done since I raced World Supersport a few years ago,” Curtain beamed from the podium. “Troy’s riding really well and he’s going to go far.”

Olson got the better of Triumph’s Christan Casella after that pair had an exciting battle, while Aaron Gobert had a solid ride to claim fifth after working his way up through the field from ninth on the grid.

Gobert edged out YRT factory rider Pat Medcalf, with Chris Quinn seventh, Ben Burke eighth, Blake Leigh-Smith ninth and Andy Lawson Jr rounding out the top 10.
