ASBK: Curtain fires first shot in Supersport in Queensland

Yamaha Racing Team rider Kevin Curtain has taken the first shot in the fourth round of the InsureMyRide Australian Supersport Championship round at Queensland Raceway, winning by 3.581 seconds in the opening 16-lap race of the round.

Curtain was involved in a titanic battle throughout the race before stretching a lead, first battling with Team Suzuki’s series leader Troy Herfoss and then teammate Rick Olson.

As Herfoss struggled to fourth in the second half of the race, Olson and Triumph’s Christan Casella moved into the final podium positions while Curtain stretched his lead at the front to a comfortable victory.

“It was awesome – a good fight with the young guys,” Curtain said. “I was determined and gave them everything that I knew, so I’m really happy to be here and finish on top to start the day.”

Rounding out the top five was third Yamaha rider Pat Medcalf, battling hard with Yamaha privateers Chris Quinn, a fast-finishing Aaron Gobert, Ben Burke and Mitchell Carr. Andy Lawson Jr rounded out the top 10.

Title contender Brodie Waters’ difficult weekend continued, starting strong before battling just outside the top 10 to finish the race in 11th position.

The race was originally red flagged due to a Turn One incident involving Dylan Mavin and Jesse Austin.
