Yamaha’s Cal Crutchlow and Aprilia’s new world champion Max Biaggi split wins in the Magny-Cours round of the Superbike World Championship in France on Sunday.

MotoGP-bound Crutchlow won the opening bout by a comfortable 3.779 seconds over Suzuki’s Leon Haslam and Ducati privateer Carlos Checa, after that pair beat out Biaggi to the race one podium in an intense battle.

The second leg saw Biaggi return to take victory in style, holding off every attempt of Crutchlow to win by a slim 0.087 seconds across the line after a thrilling 23-lap affair.

“It was two really close and enjoyable races today,” Crutchlow said. “All credit to Max, he rode really well. To have +0 on the board every lap is a big pressure so he did fantastically. He is the championship winner so to be battling with him at the end is good for me. Finishing fifth is not too bad, I’m Rookie of the Year as well.”

Rounding out the podium was Ducati Xerox’s Michel Fabrizio in his final outing with the factory Italian team as it quits WSBK, edging out hard-charging local favourite Sylvain Guintoli – the Suzuki man disqualified from race one after ignoring a stop and go penalty for cutting the circuit.

Australia’s Troy Corser had a frustrating finish to the season, his BMW Motorrad S 1000 RR suffering mechanical failures in both races to finish season 2010.

In Supersport, Kenan Sofuoglu (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda) won his second Supersport World Championship after finishing second behind Eugene Laverty (Parkalgar Honda) today.

In a thrilling race for Chaz Davies (Triumph BE-1 ParkinGO) he passed several riders on the final laps to take third in the race, and fourth in the championship.

Australia’s Broc Parkes was in the running for a podium before enduring technical troubles on his factory Kawasaki, while Mark Aitchison crashed out.
