The second round of the 2010 Monster Energy Super X, Australasian Supercross Championship, has been run and won, with American guest Kevin Windham winning on debut for Cougar Bourbon Honda Racing.

Windham took a clean sweep to capture the overall just two days after arriving in Australia, enjoying the Triple Header format and using his pin-point consistency and strong starts to dominate the night.

“It was an amazing night, the racing was good and I was able to get good starts,” Windham said. “I had to fight, but it was an incredible night – what a way to start my trip here in Australia. What a great event, I’m glad to be a part of it.”

Second overall was Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Josh Hansen, who took over the championship lead in the absense of Chad Reed, who won the opening round for TeamVodafone.

“It’s good, but we have five more rounds and I want to win races – I want to leave these races as a winner,” he said. “I’m enjoying the weather, the females, the accents – everything.”

Taking the final podium position overall was JGR Yamaha’s Justin Brayton, making for an all-American podium.

Rounding out the top five overall was Jay Marmont (CDR Rockstar Yamaha) and Mike Alessi (JDR Motorex KTM), while sixth was Alessi’s 18-year-old teammate Tye Simmonds.

The rain held off to see Windham win the first seven-lap heat by 1.159 seconds after coming through past Hansen with two laps to run, that pair staying one-two, while Brayton took third. In fourth was Jake Moss (Rockstar Motul Suzuki), while Marmont rounded out the top five.

Heat two saw Windham again win, this time victorious by 3.826 seconds over Hansen and Marmont, while a mid-race crash by Brayton dropped him back to fourth. Meanwhile, Moss’ night was spoiled after he had trouble on his way to 16th.

The final race was all Windham, winning 3.741 seconds ahead of Hansen, Brayton, Marmont and an impressive Lewis Woods (Top Gear KTM). Moss failed to finish after crashing out in a disappointing end to the evening for him after showing form earlier in the night.

The Lites final saw Matt Moss take a perfect score of three wins from three start in the trio of six-lap races, taking over the points lead for Rockstar Motul Suzuki.

British AMA regular Steven Clark (Raceline Suzuki) scored a solid second overall with three solid results, while Ryan Marmont took another strong podium for JDR Motorex KTM.

Round one winner PJ Larsen was the big news of the night in the Lites, finishing fourth overall with 2-2-15 results. Larsen battled hard with Moss in the first two legs, before a crash in the sand section ruled him out of contention when he couldn’t get his 250SX-F fired up quickly.

Defending Lites champion Moss grabbed the holeshot in the first of the Lites finals and held on for a dominant win over Larsen in second and Marmont in third.

Moss got off to another great start in the second moto holding off Larsen who was on his tail for the entire race and the UK’s Clark finished third.

In the third and final moto Moss grabbed the holeshot again and stayed in front to make it three wins from three. Larsen’s crash left second place to Clarke and Serco Yamaha’s Ford Dale third.

Local rider Lawson Bopping had a big crash in the first final race but proved what a tough racer he was by lining up again in the remaining two motos to finish 12th overall.

Dylan Long made it two wins in a row in the Michelin Development Series with Jarrad Davis second and Jake Emanuelli third.
