Reigning Superbike World Champion Max Biaggi set the pace at Motorland Aragon overnight on the second day of World Superbike testing in Spain.
The Alitalia Aprilia rider set a fastest time of 1:58.7, four tenths off the pace of Spanish rival Carlos Checa’s day one best. Checa left the test early to attend this weekend’s MotoGP round with Pramac Ducati at Estoril in Portugal.
Four riders were tied for second place, with a time of 1:59.2 – Michel Fabrizio, looking more and more positive with the Suzuki Alstare, Troy Corser, who tested two different spec BMWs, Noriyuki Haga (Aprilia Pata Racing), who had a minor crash, and Tom Sykes (Kawasaki), the real surprise of these tests.
Leon Camier lapped in 1:59.3 on the second Aprilia, while Leon Haslam continued acclimatization work with his new BMW machine and almost got under the 2:00 mark today.
Katsuaki Fuijwara was eighth quickest on the second Kawasaki.
Tomorrow sees the third and final day of testing at Aragon.
