Queenslander Mike Jones has been awarded with the 2011 Reece Bancell Scholarship, announced at the seventh annual Reece Bancell Association Charity Auction and Dinner last weekend.
Jones finished third as a rookie in this year’s Australian Superstock 600 Championship, establishing himself as one of Australia’s brightest young road racing talents.
“The Reece Bancell Scholarship is extremely proud and excited to award Mike with the Scholarship for the 2011 season and also takes this opportunity to sincerely thank all the Scholarship partners who have been on-board since the inception in 2004,” a statement from RBMA said.
“We very much appreciate the support and participation and look forward to another successful season in 2011.”
With his Scholarship, Jones was awarded the perpetual trophy, as well as a Yamaha YZF-R6 Superstock bike presented by Yamaha Racing Development (YRD). This will be the third successive year to assist young riders in their racing development and to give them the benefits and insights in to a full factory team without the pressure.
Over 150 people attended the charity auction and dinner last Saturday night, contributing in excess of $30,000 to the charity.
