Racing: MA releases provisional calendar for 2011 season

The 2011 Motorcycling Australia National Provisional Calendar has been released, with dates confirmed for several of the major national series and Australian Championships.

Next year gets underway with Speedway dominating January, headlined by the Australian Solo Speedway Championship series.

Expanding to a five-round Series, fans will get to see the nation’s premier speedway riders, including Chris Holder and World U21 Champion Darcy Ward.

The series kicks off in Sydney on 12 January, visiting Kurri-Kurri, Gilman and Broken Hill before finishing in Mildura on 29 January.

The action hits the sealed track in February with the World Superbike Championship road show rolling into town from the 25th to the 27th at the picturesque Phillip Island circuit.

Action begins in February for the 2010 Australian Off Road Championship, with New South Wales to host the season-opening event in the last weekend of the month.

This will be followed by four more events in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia, where the series will conclude on 27-28 August.

March begins in style with the 2011 Australian Motocross Championship series first round at Broadford, Victoria, on 6 March.

The new season will feature a nine-round series, taking to tracks in Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia and Queensland, culminating at Coolum for the final round on 30-31 July.

Mackay will be the destination for the Australian Four Day Enduro from 20-23 April, while the 2011 Honda Broadford Bike Bonanza will be the major attraction over the Easter long weekend.

June welcomes in a new era in Women’s Motocross, with the first round of the expanded Australian Women’s Motocross Championship to be held in Broadford on the 25th and 26th of the month.

Riders will then head to the warm climate of Queensland for the second round on 27-28 August.

As winter turns to spring the events keep coming with the Australian Classic Motocross set down for 9-11 September in Crystal Brook, South Australia.

The war of attrition that is the Australian Safari has been locked in for 23-30 September in Western Australia.

Headlining October will be the Australian MotoGP from the 14th to the 16th, while National titles will be on the line for the Junior Motocross (Murray Bridge), Quad Motocross (Coolum) and Moto Trials (South Australia).

The world’s best come to Murray Bridge for the 2011 FIM Speedway Sidecar 1000cc World Championship held on 12 November.

Rounding out the year will be The 6 Hour Endurance race set down for the first weekend in December at Phillip Island.

Several major series and national championships are yet to be confirmed, with the Australian Superbike Championship, Australasian Supercross Championship, Australian Supermoto Championship, MRRDA National Junior Cup and Australian Junior Long Track Championships for 2011 expected to finalise their dates in the coming weeks.
