An intense rivalry is brewing in the battle for the Lites category title in the 2010 Monster Energy Super X, Australasian Supercross Championship, with title rivals PJ Larsen and Matt Moss entering a war of words in Sydney.

Moss enters this weekend’s season finale with a slender five-point lead over Larsen after winning the Sydney round last weekend.

But it was an incident in Sydney’s qualifying session as Moss and Larsen rode side-by-side at a very slow pace during the session in a game of Supercross cat and mouse where things got heated, and Larsen later let his frustrations be known to an American film crew putting together an Aussie version of the ‘Dirt Shark’ series.

“[Moss’s] being an idiot like he always does and I’m going to go straight onto camera and say that he’s being an idiot,” Larsen told the Dirt Shark.

“He’s sits out there in practice and screws everybody’s laps up – he gets one good one in and just likes to screw people up. That’s the way that he goes about it over here, but maybe that’s why he sucks in America.”

Despite Larsen’s call, Moss was light upon his retaliation when prompted for a response from the Dirt Shark.

“I guess he qualified second and you always talk a bit of crap when you’re in second,” Moss said. “Apparently he couldn’t get a fast lap time because I was in the way, but I managed to do what I needed to do and he managed to get into second so I don’t know what he’s crying about.”

Interestingly, while Larsen will return home to the U.S. in 2011 with his the Australian-owned JDR Motorsports KTM team, Moss will replace him on the team’s Australian squad after opting to switch from Rockstar Motul Suzuki.

This weekend’s finale just got that much more interesting. Let the games begin!
