Local Ben Attard (12) made his way to the front before ultimately finishing third behind Wayne Maxwell (47) and Glenn Allerton (14).

Queenslander Ben Attard believes he could have had a shot at scoring his and the i-Style The Natural Aprilia Racing team’s first QBE Australian Superbike win of the year if he didn’t run off the circuit on Saturday at Queensland Raceway.

Attard made the most of recent arm pump surgery in the early laps to dice for the lead on the unique RSV4, but ran off the circuit mid-race after making the pass for the lead at Turn Three.

The mishap left Attard to fight back through the pack to score what was an impressive podium, but he’s adamant it could have been much more if he didn’t go off-track.

“It was a fun race, we got the holeshot and myself and Jamie [Stauffer] spent a few laps banging bars,” Attard explained. “The wind was behind me and I just braked too deep into three and ran off the track.

“From seventh I just dropped the hammer and fought back, I got back to third on the last corner which is a pretty good result but I’m disappointed because I really feel that we could have won that race.

“There’s always tomorrow and we’ll give it a good go then.”


Race one was one by Team Honda Racing’s Wayne Maxwell in his first of the season, edging out title leader Glenn Allerton in the closing laps.

Attard sits second in the series heading into tomorrow’s race, which is scheduled to take place at 2.05pm.
