HRP Honda’s Karl Muggeridge won his first race of the 2012 IDM Superbike season at the Schleizer Dreieck on Sunday.

Muggeridge, who will retire at the end of this season, was second in the opening race before claiming the win during the second leg. The 38-year-old now sits seventh in the series.

“In the second race I got a pretty good start again and it didn’t get stopped,” he explained. “I couldn’t get passed [Matej] Smrz, and then [Gareth] Jones passed me and Smrz and they took off a bit.

“I couldn’t keep up at the first and I was thinking oh man, but then I sorted myself out, changed my riding a bit so I got smoother and I got faster again and at the end I got him.”

Jones didn’t complete the first race, before claiming second to complete the weekend. He’s now a solid fourth in the championship standings.

Rookie Troy Herfoss was third in the opening race on debut at the circuit, and ended up sixth in race two. He’s also sixth in the championship standings.

Technogym Racing Austria BMW’s Michael Ranseder leads the championship by 10 points after six of eight rounds.
