Team Honda Racing will field teenager Josh Hook in this weekend’s Motul Victorian Road Racing Championships, the 19-year-old in line for a full time seat in 2013.

Hook stunned as a rookie in this year’s Australian Supersport Championship aboard a CBR600RR, winning the opening round before ultimately finishing second in the series.

As a reward for his Supersport efforts, Team Honda Racing boss Paul Free will reward Hook with a number of Superbike races, including this weekend’s VRRC round at Phillip Island, along with this month’s MotoGP support races in a three-rider assault.

Hook has today had his first taste of the Superbike-spec CBR1000RR, now looking forward to his race debut this weekend and hoping to seal a seat for next season.

“Today was my first day on the Fireblade, so I took it pretty easy at the start,” Hook told CycleOnline. “The chassis was pretty much the same as the 600, so it was easy to adapt to, but the power is really fast and throttle control is a lot different.

“I’m slowly getting there, so it’s just a matter of time, I think. Being runner-up in Supersport this year, we know we could have won it, so there’s no point in doing it again. We’re always looking to step up to the next level and Australian Superbikes is definitely that.

“To get this test down here and to ride at the MotoGP in a couple of weeks is really good. Hopefully we can make a big step forward and ideally ride the Superbike next year. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens, see how I go.”

Free is yet to finalise Team Honda Racing’s plans for 2013, but is expected to field a pair of factory-supported Superbikes once again.

Victorian Ben Nicholson currently leads the Superbike class by 16 points over Ben Hooke heading into the finale.

The final round of the 2012 Motul Victorian Road Racing Championships takes place at Phillip Island this weekend on October 6-7.
