Brookes primed for British Superbike 'Showdown' at Brands Hatch

Aussie charger stands best chance yet at claiming elusive first British Superbike Championship.

Tyco Suzuki's Josh Brookes will battle for the BSB title at Brands this weekend.

The 2012 MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship will reach its thrilling climax at the legendary Brands Hatch circuit in Kent this weekend on 12-14 October, with Australian Josh Brookes sitting just nine points in arrears of series leader Shane Byrne.

A triple-header event is scheduled to wrap up the series as six riders representing five different manufacturers prepare for the crucial title-deciding season finale.

Tyco Suzuki’s Brookes enjoyed some memorable battles with Byrne on the Grand Prix Circuit earlier in the season and has only failed to finish on the podium once in the Showdown rounds.

“Mathematically this is the strongest position I have been in going into the last round so in that respect this is my best chance,” Brookes explained.

“The six of us are all equally trying to achieve the same goal but the Tyco Suzuki team are in the best position we can be. I will be riding as hard as I can at Brands Hatch.”

Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki’s Byrne has just a nine point buffer ahead of his home round as the double champion aims to equal the record of three BSB titles.

“Brands Hatch is going to be the event of the season, there is going to be some hard racing and I will be giving it everything to win the title,” he said.

“Mathematically it is possible for all six of us to win the title so we are all going out to try and win races, but I have one goal and that is to be the champion.”

Byrne, Brookes, Alex Lowes, defending champion Tommy Hill, Michael Laverty and Tommy Bridewell all still have a outside chance at the title entering the finale.
