Phillip Island officially confirms 8 Hour cancellation

Australian Endurance Championship scrapped from 2012 domestic road racing schedule.

Suzuki's team of Josh Waters, Robbie Bugden and Troy Herfoss celebrate their 2011 win.

The Phillip Island 8 Hour Australian Endurance Championship scheduled for the 30 November-2 December has been cancelled today.

Despite extending the closing time for entries there are insufficient competitors registered to conduct the event.

“We had hoped to build a tradition with this event at Phillip Island in much the same way as the long standing MotoGP, Superbike World Championship and the Island Classic,” Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit managing director Fergus Cameron said.

“Despite our best efforts the response has been very slow, possibly due to the current economic times. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes to competitors who had already entered.

“We will continue to explore opportunities for new motorcycle events in the future.”
