Australia’s Mike Jones is aiming for a solid start to his 2013 UEM European Superstock 600 Championship campaign which begins at Motorland Aragon in Spain this weekend.

The Queenslander has relocated to Germany to ensure he is able to work closely with the Team Agro On Racedays Honda outfit which will prepare a pair of CBR600RRs for Jones and credentialed stablemate Lukas Wimmer.

Jones has enjoyed solid success in the 600cc class in Australia, claiming Superstock 600 and FX-600 titles, and is now hoping to hone his racecraft against Europe’s best in the nine-round championship which runs in conjunction with World Superbikes.

With a bulk of the team’s preseason testing conducted at Aragon, the 19-year-old is confident he has developed a solid feel for the Honda after many years racing Yamaha machinery.

“I was fortunate enough to complete 106 laps at Aragon during our first tests including very valuable rain time on the last day, giving me an opportunity to get a feel for the Pirelli wet weather tyres and find a base wet setup for the CBR600RR,” explained Jones.

“I also learnt a lot about the bike and tyres in the dry weather and it was a very positive test. The bike is fantastic; I’m really enjoying the Honda CBR600RR and adapting my riding style to suit the bike, which is quite different to what I have raced in the past.

“The Honda is very user-friendly and has a tractable engine. We are using Ohlins suspension, which I am very familiar with. I’m grateful for all of the support I am getting from Australia and I will be determined to give my fans something to cheer for on the weekend.”

With a two-day test now complete, the Australian rider heads to the 5.344 kilometre circuit armed with an arsenal of knowledge and brimming with enthusiasm for his first full season of European competition.

He already boasts a top six finish in the class after two guest appearances during the 2012 championship.
