Broc Parkes’ confidence aboard the Yamaha R1 continues to grow with the accomplished Australian rider breaking through for his first FX-Superbike Championship race win at Winton on the weekend.

The Yamaha Racing with Yamalube pilot is relishing the additional seat time on the 1000cc machine with the two-day format affording him no less than 12 race starts across the varying classes and championships.

Parkes took two race wins in Saturday’s FX-Nationals showdown and put in solid rides across the three Formula Oz races.

Two third-place finishes were followed by a breakthrough win in Sunday’s FX-Superbike Championship matchup as Parkes held off factory teammates Kevin Curtain and Rick Olson by a narrow margin.

He shadowed Curtain to the line in each of the three Formula Oz Championship races to complete a solid weekend on a track that he had previously not ridden.

“It’s two rounds in now and I feel things are starting to come together. I managed to win the final race on the Superbike and it was my best ride since coming back to Australia,” summarised Parkes.

“At the moment I’m second on one bike and third on the other, so it’s been a consistent start and something I can build on as the championship moves forward.”

The additional seat time on the R1 will serve Parkes well as he turns his focus back to his World Endurance Championship campaign with the Monster Energy Yamaha Austria team.

He will pair up with fellow Australian Josh Waters for the 24 Hours Bol D’Or at Magnys-Cours later this month.

FX600 factory stablemate Cru Halliday’s goal of another overall podium was unable to be realised after the Yamaha Racing with Yamalube pushed too hard on worn tyres in the final race, resulting in a fall.

“The fall was my fault as I was trying too hard on tyres that were getting worn,” said Halliday. “But the first two races were good and I feel like I’m riding the 600cc machine well.”

“I’m just out of the points lead now but there is still plenty of time to get back on top.”

He came away from Winton placed equal second on the FX600 standings.
