Remy Gardner will race for the Madrid-based Team Laglisse in the Campeonato de Espana de Velocidad (CEV) Moto3 class this season, with Team Gardner Racing citing its 2012 setup struggles as part of the move.

The son of Australian icon Wayne Gardner, Remy is entering his second year in the competitive category, widely recognised as the feeder class to world championship racing.

The signing will see the 15-year-old switch from Honda to KTM machinery, a move that Wayne Gardner believes will a positive one.

“After the struggles we experienced last year setting up our own team here in Barcelona, we felt it was important to place Remy within a professional organisation with an established track record,” said Gardner.

“It was a really difficult decision for us after working so closely last season with Moriwaki and Honda to develop the Moriwaki Moto3 chassis, but when we considered all our options it made more sense for us to provide Remy with the stability of a well-developed team.

“We expect Remy will greatly benefit from information and experience Team Laglisse will be able to gather from their Moto3 World Championship project, with riders Maverick Vinales and Anna Carrasco.”

Remy, whose first race of the season will be a double-header at the Montmelo Circuit on 28 April, is looking forward to his second season in the CEV Moto3 class after a learning year in 2012.

“I can’t wait to get to know the KTM and start racing again. I’m so happy to be with Team Laglisse this year and I’m looking forward to working with them,” he said. “It feels like a really long time since I was on the track and the first race can’t come soon enough!

“Last year I was learning everything, the bike, the circuits, the language, the culture and now I’m really ready to go for it this year. I just want to get started.”

Team Laglisse riders won four titles in 2012, with Jordi Torres winning the CEV Moto2 class and the European Supersport 600 class and Carmelo Morales winning both the Superstock 1000 and National Stock Extreme titles.
