Damian Cudlin is a solid chance at starting the Assen World Superbike event if FIXI Crescent Suzuki’s Leon Camier cannot ride.

A second Australian rider could be in action in Assen this weekend with the announcement that FIXI Crescent Suzuki has called in the services of Damian Cudlin should the injury cloud over Leon Camier not lift in time.

While Camier passed his latest fitness test at the track, his participation in the first free practice sessions of the weekend will be a determining factor as to whether he is free of pain and discomfort and able to continue.

An assessment by the track media crew has found he has around 80% movement in the knee that was wounded at Aragon after a spectacular crash in practice.

Cudlin, who was already for a slated for a support class start at the Dutch World Superbike event, is riding the momentum of his IDM Superbike clean sweep last weekend and will make the most of the opportunity should he required to step in.

“I’m really pleased to have been given this opportunity to step into the FIXI Crescent Suzuki team if I’m needed,” said Cudlin.

“I’ve competed in a lot of championships including MotoGP, Moto2, AMA and of course Aussie Superbikes, but I’ve never had the chance to ride for a top-class WSB team.

“I’m really thrilled to have been asked by Paul and thankful to Geert Prins and the RAC team for giving me the chance to ride for FIXI Crescent Suzuki if the situation arises.

“Obviously it’s the best for the team if Leon is fit, but if he is not then I will be very happy to step in. If I do get the chance I can’t wait to take it and I’ll hopefully do a good job and perform at my best for the team.”

30-year-old Cudlin comes with a wealth of experience gained at top level motorcycle racing, that has seen him race in MotoGP, Moto2, World Endurance and AMA Supersport as well as his initial years in the Australian Superbike Championship.
