Fan Guide: 2013 AFX-SBK Rd3 Wakefield Park

CycleOnline.com.au has a complete guide to round three of the Australian FX-Superbike Championship at Wakefield Park.

After a brief break the Australian FX-Superbike Championship action resumes this weekend at Wakefield Park for the third round of the 2013 season.

In the FX-Superbike field it again looks to be a battle of the Yamaha big guns as Kevin Curtain, Rick Olson and Broc Parkes lead the way.

The factory trio swept the race podium placings at Winton, with Curtain taking the upper-hand despite a breakthrough championship race win for Parkes.

A tough Winton showing for early points leader Matt Walters means the Kawasaki rider will be eager to buy back into the battle, with Chris Trounson also well-placed to attack.

Rick Olson will lead the FX-600 charge into the weekend after a clean sweep at round two. Cru Halliday lost the points lead to Olson after a crash in race three, a mistake he is eager to put behind him.

Keeping the factory riders honest is the privateer effort of Callum Spriggs, who sits second in the points after consistent performances across rounds one and two.

It remains to be seen whether anyone can stop the dominance of Curtain in Formula Oz competition. Six race wins from six starts sees him comfortably atop the class leader, with teammate Broc Parkes 22 points shy.

Brett Kitchin, Michael McMillian and Russell Holland were all podium finishers at Winton, an arm wrestle that looks set to resume this weekend.

An interesting prospect to consider is the late entry of Australian Superbike Championship points leader Glenn Allerton, who dominated the opening round in Tasmania with a clean sweep in qualifying and the races. Allerton will campaign his current machine in the Formula Oz field, and it’s sure to be strong at a circuit like Wakefield Park.

Competitors will do battle for FX Nationals series points on the Saturday, with the ledger wiped clean on Sunday as the FX-Superbike points battle comes into play. A host of support classes will also be on track.
