Levi Day to contest Suzuka 8 Hour aboard Over Racing Aprilia

British-based Aussie to sample first WEC event in July.

Another Australian rider will bolster the Suzuka 8 Hour grid in July with the confirmation of Levi Day to contest the event aboard the Over Racing Projects Aprilia entry.

The 23-year-old British-based rider is currently turning heads in British Superstock 600 competition, and additional experience in Spain and South Africa have made him a solid prospect for the iconic Japanese event.

The team will field an RSV4 1000cc machine, with Day to join forces with former grand prix racer Toshiyuki Arakahi and another Italian rider.

“To be selected by Over Racing to ride in Suzuka is very exciting; I have always dreamed of travelling to other countries to race,” said Day.

“When you look at previous years’ entry lists and winners, including Australian’s Wayne Gardner, Kevin Magee, Mick Doohan, Daryl Beattie, Tony Hatton and Mick Cole, it is a very prestigious race meeting.

“Taking new steps in my career is very exciting and I just look forward to the experience. It will be a challenge learning the famous Suzuka circuit on a new machine, but it is a flowing circuit like Phillip Island.

“I have had experience dealing with new circuits and machines by competing in the Spanish 125 championship and now the British Championship.”

The Mt Gambier-based rider gambled on an international career at end of 2012, selling off all of his racing equipment to secure his current BSB ride aboard a Moto-Breakers Kawasaki.

He hopes the foot in the door in the world endurance ranks will help him further develop his career.

“I’m not sure where this ride with Over Racing might lead, but the idea of racing regularly in the World Endurance Championship really appeals,” he added.
“The circuits on the WEC calendar look great and you can combine that with competing in British or European racing. But I just hope to bring a positive and hard-working attitude to the Over Racing team, and to show some good pace and consistency.”

Day is currently placed eighth on the British Superstock 600 points ladder, and will be back on track this weekend as the championship visits Oulton Park.
