Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) points leader Glenn Allerton decimated the Australian FX-Superbike Championship’s Formula Oz field at Wakefield Park on the weekend in what must be an ominous sign to his competitors.

The NextGen Motorsports team entered the event with the intention of gaining more track time on the BMW HP4, as well as meeting eligibility requirements should the team choose to tackle the FX-500 endurance showdown later in the year.

Dressed in an stealth-like carbon black livery, the performance of Allerton would hardly go under the radar, as the two-time ASBK champion set about breaking both the qualifying and race records to go with three wins, and the overall.

“Wakefield Park is a new track for us and we did not have our complete team with us but the BMW HP4 was absolutely awesome,” said Allerton. “It was a perfect weekend. I could not be happier.”

He won the opening race by 2.985 seconds over class frontrunner Kevin Curtain, and proceeded to build on the advantage in races two and three, greeting the chequered flag close to 10 seconds clear of second place as the weekend wrapped up.

Team principal Wayne Hepburn was delighted with the results from the Wakefield Park weekend.

“It is always good to come away with a victory and Glenn’s performance speaks for itself,” said Hepburn. “I could not have asked for more.

“The weekend’s FX Championship was also important for us as it is part of the qualifying criteria for the FX-500 ‘winner take all’ endurance race later in the year.”

Allerton is next on track for round three of the ASBK at Queensland Raceway from 14-16 June.
