Australian FX-600 Championship frontrunner Cru Halliday has revealed he rode five of the weekend’s six races at Wakefield Park with a broken bone in his foot.

The Yamaha Racing with Yamalube young gun led the field away in Saturday’s FX-Nationals opening race, moving into the lead after the opening lap and looking to make a break.

As he accelerated out of the left-hand hairpin, Halliday momentarily lost traction, saving a potential high-side but then finding himself slammed to the ground in a vicious low-side.

“My legs flipped over the bike and straight into the ground,” said Halliday. “I was in a heap of pain and only just found out I broke the metatarsal bone in my foot.”

A resilient Halliday pushed through the pain to complete the following two races, even working his way into second to round out the day.

“I was in pain but once the lights went out it stopped hurting and I just focused on riding,” he said. “On some corners it was pinching and I couldn’t get to the actual lean angle and my normal riding style, so it did hold me back a fair bit.

“On Sunday I was surprised it wasn’t a lot worse. There was a still a lot of pain but I had to keep racing, I knew that I needed to try to keep the championship alive and not going out on track would mean there was 75 points down the drain.”

With the lengthy break between FX events, Halliday is confident he will be back to full health for the next point-scoring round.

“I’ll have no problem being back for the Queensland Raceway round. We have a test there in around four weeks, the doctor has said I should give it six weeks but if I can take the pain then I can do it.”

Halliday finished each of the FX-600 Sunday races in second, consolidating second place on the points ladder and ensuring he remains within striking distance of factory stablemate and current leader Rick Olson.
