Milwaukee Yamaha’s Josh Waters is re-gaining the confidence he lost after a high-speed crash some weeks ago, working his way to two solid finishes at the weekend’s third round of the British Superbike Championship (BSB) at Oulton Park.

The Australian rider was downcast after a crash a Thruxton halted his forward progress, and was determined to make amends aboard the R1 as the series resumed.

Waters was forced to re-group after a tough qualifying session, only managing 17th fastest, which would see him start from the fifth row of the grid.

“We had moved forward over the weekend but it just didn’t come together when we needed it to,” he explained.

“We made some changes for qualifying which we thought would be heaps better but it is always that fine balance, which today just didn’t pay off for us.”

He shrugged off the setback and was able to deliver two consistent performances across the day, riding to 13th place in race one and 10th in race two after a fierce battle for position.

“The second race was better for me as I was in the top ten and that is where I want and need to be,” said Waters. “I had lost a bit of confidence after the crash at Thruxton but now feel that I am getting more used to it.

“Obviously the Milwaukee Yamaha is good, James [Ellison] has proved that so now I just need to keep working at it.”

With a considerable five-week break before the next round, Waters has plans in place to build on the results and continue picking up points from round four at Knockhill, and onwards.

“I knew that learning the circuits would be tough when I came over so I won’t be using that as an excuse, now I am getting a good feeling and can go forwards,” he said.

“I plan to watch and support the team in their road races and then get back to it at Knockhill.”

He sits 17th on the BSB points ladder after three of 12 rounds.
