South America and Asia are the focus of MotoGP’s expansion plans, with Spain and the United States set to lose out as Dorna seeks a greater level of diversity on its world championship schedule.

Argentina’s Termas de Rio Honda circuit is a confirmed inclusion for 2014, with teams to test at the Santiago del Estero venue in July.

Brazil is also on the agenda having last hosted a grand prix in 1992, though it is less certain for next season with required upgrades unlikely to take place in time.

“We will go next year to Argentina and most probably in the near future to Brazil, and then we are talking about other venues in Asia, but for sure in 2014 will be Argentina,” said Dorna chief executive Carmelo Ezpeleta.

India’s new Buddh circuit is a possibility in future years, though a race in Thailand looks more certain, perhaps as early as next season.

Existing events would need to be removed from the schedule to allow for such immediate changes, with Spain and the United States to lose at least one event each.

“There is not a lot of possibility to continue with four races in Spain,” said Ezpeleta. “We don’t want to pass 18 [races] if possible but it depends on many things.

“I don’t think we will continue with three (in America). The Austin track is fantastic and we will continue with them, and Laguna Seca is special also,” he added, indicating that the Indianapolis event would not continue.

The 2013 MotoGP World Championship features 19 events, with Dorna’s preference to host 18. 20 would be the maximum number of events that could be catered for in any one season.
