Next Gen Motorsports BMW’s Glenn Allerton topped a single-day Australian Superbike teams test at Queensland Raceway on Tuesday, 21 May, continuing his dominant early-season form.

The ASBK series leader set a blistering string of laps in the mid-1m08 bracket, his unofficial best recorded at 1m08.4 aboard the Pirelli-equipped HP4.

After dominating the opening point-scoring round of the 2013 series in Tasmania early last month, Allerton and the Next Gen team have contested rounds of both the FX-Superbike series and Victorian titles.

Progress has been made on the newly-developed HP4, enabling the 2008 and 2011 series champion to quickly get on the pace in his debut on the bike at Queensland Raceway.

“The test went really good and doing the VIC titles over the weekend made a big difference for me,” Allerton told CycleOnline.com.au. “I’m very happy with the HP4, we have a new engine-spec now and the Pirelli tyres were awesome.

“I was happy with the times we did, the rubber was consistent and I really just want to race as soon as possible, but we have a three-week break so I can’t wait.”

Unofficially second behind Allerton was the Team Suzuki pairing of Wayne Maxwell and Robbie Bugden, with both stopping the watch at 1m08.9 according to team manager Phil Tainton.

Team Honda Racing’s Jamie Stauffer, the dominant rider at Queensland Raceway in recent seasons, recorded a 1m09.3, while rookie teammate Josh Hook did a 1m09.6. Both times were supplied by team owner Paul Free.

CM Racing Team Suzuki privateer Chas Hern was again impressive aboard his GSX-R1000, posting a 1m09.4 in a confidence-inspiring test for the Victorian.

Allerton’s teammate Linden Magee debuted a near-stock HP4 at Queensland Raceway and was also well on pace, lapping at 1m09.5 during the test.

Racer’s Edge Performance Suzuki rider Beau Beaton continued to make progress with the team, eventually setting a best lap of 1m10.3. Cube Racing Suzuki’s Ben Henry posted a similar lap time according to reports.

Team InsureMyRide Racing’s Glenn Scott was back aboard his Honda and set a 1m11.5, following a recent restructure of the team since the Symmons Plains round.

The majority of teams will return to Queensland Raceway next month in a test to be conducted by Champion’s Ride Days on 6-7 June.

Round three of the Australian Superbike Championship will take place at the ‘Paperclip’ on 14-16 June.
