Seasoned World Superbike (WSBK) star Noriyuki Haga will return to the grid in a one-off ride with the Team Grillini BMW squad at round seven of the world championship at Imola.

A winner of 43 WSBK races, Haga made his last appearance in the championship at the conclusion of 2011, before a brief but ultimately unsuccessful stint in the British Superbike Championship ranks.

The veteran rider was recently confirmed as part of a legendary three-prong attack on the Suzuka 8 Hour ravel, albeit on Suzuki machinery.

Haga will test with the team at Mugello before making his one-off return aboard a BMW for the 30 June event.

“I am very happy to have reached an agreement with Haga and his management,” said Andrea Grillini. “For the Italian round, Haga will be supported by a dedicated crew of technicians.

“I am sure that Haga’s return in Superbike is a great news for his fans and for the series itself.”

The Grillini BMW team’s best finish in WSBK competition is 11th, recorded in 2012.

The Italian squad will campaign Haga’s entry alongside its regular championship runner, Vittorio Iannuzzo.
