Fast Thoughts: Glenn Scott

InsureMyRide Racing's Glenn Scott is a man on a mission.

Glenn Scott is a racer with a big future. From battling against and beating Kevin Curtain in the 600 ranks, through to holding his own in his rookie Superbike showing, it’s clear that he has what it takes to be a contender at the top level.

CycleOnline quizzed Glenn on a few Fast Thoughts in the leadup to the third round of the Australian Superbike Championship.

The move from Supersport to Superbike…

It’s a big jump. I definitely prefer the Superbike class. The competition last year was very tough, but this year you’ve got more of that stiff competition, and I’m up against some guys that you could call veterans of the class, and super experienced. It’s a class where I can probably learn a lot more. Last year I was probably top four in Supersport, and we were learning off each other, but there was no one more experienced than the other. This year, being the rookie, I can learn off these faster guys and that is a big plus. I love the 1000, my new Fireblade is an unbelievable bike to ride.

Goals for my rookie season…

I’m really striving for first privateer. I know it’s ambitious, there’s quite a few good riders there, but you’ve got to strive high. Then to challenge as many factory guys as I can. Top five in the championship and first privateer would be good – I think if I’m first privateer then I’ve got to be top five. They’re my two goals.

Progress at the pre-round Queensland Raceway test…

Queensland Raceway was a really good test for us actually because we had a new mechanic on board, and Bernie Hatton was also there to assist us and give the team some direction, and help me with a few skills on the Superbike. It was a really successful day – we didn’t go as fast as we would have hoped but we took in a lot of information about each other, more information about the bike, and it allowed my mechanic to get more used to things. He’s taking this time to learn the Superbike, and how we go about things at the track. We worked on a few protocols too. Each person on the team was allocated a role as to what they need to look after at a race meeting, so when we get into those high-pressure situations everyone knows what to do. If we keep practicing everything we learnt we’ll only get faster, and more efficient as a team.

Where I want to be in road racing…

I definitely want to be heading overseas. I feel that unless some things change in Australia and the sport really gets some heavy backing it’s going to be difficult to stay here and be successful and make a career out of it. I think that’s just being realistic about motorsport in Australia. But this is my two year plan I put together with my sponsors – to be on a 1000 for two years and learn what it is about. It’d be good to be on the same bike for consecutive years and get as fast as I can on this Fireblade. Then, if the opportunity comes about where I’m able to step into a factory team here in Australia then I’d love to be able to do that, and if that doesn’t come about I’d definitely be looking overseas in either 1000 Superstock, or even Superbike.

What motivates me…

I suppose the best way to sum that up is I just want to be the fastest motorcycle racer that I can be. And that’s it. I love motorbikes, I’ve been around them all my life. The sad thing about bike lovers is that you can’t race forever – while I’m young, and have these opportunities – I’m going to take them and do everything I can to make them work. There’s probably a few people who would like to be in the position I am, racing Superbikes, and I feel I’m really lucky to be surrounded by great people and great sponsors. I definitely think I’m a very appreciate person. I’m giving this opportunity one hundred percent.
