Next Gen Motorsports BMW’s Glenn Allerton continues to shine in the lead-up to the Queensland Raceway round of the QBE Australian Superbike Championship, setting the pace at a two-day test on 6-7 June.

Despite sitting out the opening day of testing, Allerton equalled his best lap set at the venue last month with a 1m08.4, set aboard his HP4 on a well-worn set of Pirelli tyres.

“We modified the rear shock setting to clean up the way the bike comes off the turns and I was pretty happy with how we ended up,” Allerton told CycleOnline.

“On old tyres we were still faster than everybody else and I managed to do my fastest lap on an old tyre with 30 laps on it.

“I think there’s still more time to come once we use the new tyres at the race meeting. I’m really happy, super confident in our package and I’m looking forward to the race weekend.”

Team Suzuki duo Wayne Maxwell and Robbie Bugden narrowed the gap on Allerton during the day’s proceedings, both posting identical laps of 1m08.7 after two days.

Team Honda Racing endured a difficult day as lead rider Jamie Stauffer crashed heavily during the test. He remained under observation at time of posting according to team principle Paul Free.

In hospital with Stauffer when contacted by CycleOnline this evening, Free opted not to disclose lap times for either Stauffer or rookie teammate Josh Hook recorded at the test.

CM Racing Team Suzuki rider Chas Hern matched his best lap from the previous test with a 1m09.4, continuing his impressive run as a rookie in the premier class field.

Fellow Suzuki privateers Ben Henry and Beau Beaton also continued their progression, with Cube Racing’s Henry stopping the clock at 1m09.6, and Racer’s Edge Performance rider Beaton at 1m09.7.

InsureMyRide Racing’s Glenn Scott also improved with a personal best lap of 1m10.6 as he comes to grips with the CBR1000RR.

Allerton’s teammate Linden Magee sat out the test as the team puts the finishing touches on his brand new HP4.

The ASBK series will resume at Queensland Raceway on 14-16 June.
