Italian Max Biaggi has completed his first day of testing with the Pramac Ducati MotoGP team at Mugello.
Biaggi, a former four-time 250GP World Champion and dual World Superbike Champion, was called in to replace injured Texan Ben Spies during the two-day Ducati test.
According to reports out of Italy, Biaggi posted a fastest lap in the 1m54 range – around seven seconds shy of Marc Marquez’s race lap record of 1m47.639 set earlier this season.
The outing marked Biaggi’s first on a MotoGP bike since he departed Repsol Honda at the close of the 2005 season. The 41-year-old retired at the end of last season after clinching the WSBK title for Aprilia.
Also on track during the test was Spies’ regular Pramac teammate Andrea Iannone, who circulated in the 1m49 range, while factory riders Nicky Hayden and Andrea Dovizioso rode the brand new labratory bike.
Official test riders Michele Pirro and Franco Battaini were also on track as Ducati attempts to turn around its MotoGP project during the 2013 season.
Biaggi is scheduled to continue testing on the final day of action today.
Pirro will replace Spies in next weekend’s Catalan Grand Prix, the former American and World Superbike Champion continuing to recover from a string of early season injuries.
