The opening support races of the Australian Superbike Championship weekend were contested at Queensland Raceway on Saturday across the Prostock, 250 Production and Moto3 categories.

Sean Condon (Bikebiz/Ipone/Swann Insurance Racing Kawasaki) starred in the Prostock race with the victory, heading Matt Walters (Rover Coaches/Kawasaki Connection/BC Connect Kawasaki) and Dustin Goldsmith (Kawasaki) in a ZX-10R podium sweep.

Condon won the 10-lap sprint by 1.100s in a convincing performance, with Walters another 2.047s ahead of Goldsmith to set up an enthralling battle on Sunday.

NextGen Motorsports BMW’s Ben Nicolson worked his way up to fourth to open his account for the weekend, while Ben Burke (BC Performance by Bikesconnect/A1 Motorcycles Kawasaki) rounded out the top five in his return to Australia.

Like Burke, former multiple national champion Pat Medcalf also returned to ASBK competition and finished sixth on debut with the Champions Ride Days/Child’s Dream Honda team.

The 250 Production field also featured a Kawasaki sweep led by Brandon Demmery (CM Racing/NSW Compensation Lawyers/TKD Jeans Kawasaki) with a 14.009s victory from Tom Bramich (Ron Angel Classic Racing/Tingate Racing Kawasaki) and top female racer Sophie Lovett (Cessnock KTM/Central Coast Harley Davidson/Arai Kawasaki).

Defending champion Luke Burgess (Mackay Kawasaki/Kawasaki/Tomsey Racing/KMF/Kawasaki) was in the battle for the lead with Demmery until he had a mishap on the final lap and wound up ninth.

Winning Saturday’s Moto3 proceedings was topped by Lawson Walters (LMWS/Top Rider/Improtek KTM), edging out Lachlan Kavney (Bullet Racing/Crackman NDT/Motul/Kingaroy Motorcycles Honda) by 2.888s. Callum Barker (Aly-Tek Welding/Power Plus/Ricondi Honda) filled the podium.
