New South Wales rookie Michael Blair made it a clean-sweep of the Queensland Raceway Australian Supersport Championship round this afternoon, winning race two.

The Blairbuild / YRD / JoeGroot Civil / Finson Yamaha rider may have led the opening race from flag to flag, however race two he got the better of series leader Daniel Falzon (Caterpillar / EPSA / Yamaha) in an entertaining dual.

Blair led the first three laps before Falzon took charge for five, however on lap nine Blair reclaimed the lead and went on to win by 0.526s.

“We’re stoked with two race wins first time out on the Supersport-spec bike,” Blair beamed. “I had the inside from fourth on the grid, it couldn’t have gone any better and I have to thank my whole team.

“I just tried to keep a cool head, I knew I could outbrake Daniel, so we were able to do that and I’m really happy.”

Following a brake issue in race one, Falzon was relieved to be back at the front in the second and ended up third overall for the round.

“After race one we came in from the race and I knew there was something wrong,” Falzon explained. “We looked over the bike, realised the back brake was locked on and it showed in my GPS speed, but no excuses.

“In race two I showed what I had in the tank and I’m really happy to get second in the race and third overall, so I’m still leading the championship. It wasn’t ideal, but still a good weekend.”

Third in the race and second overall for the round was Victorian Ryan Taylor (Pirelli / Motul / SW Racing / YRD Yamaha) after a 2-3 performance.

“I didn’t get the best of starts again, tried to bridge the gap, but tore up the tyre,” Taylor commented. “The bike was consistent though and I finished third, so well done to the other two.”

The top five in the race was completed by Chris Quinn (Coopers Pale Ale / Holmes Extractive Resources Yamaha) and Aaron Morris (Maxima Yamaha / Ohlins / Arrow / Pirelli / RK Chains / Bell Yamaha). They also filled the top five overall for the round.

In race two the battle for fifth including Morris was an entertaining one, as he edged out Luke Burgess (Mackay Kawasaki / Kawasaki Aust. / Tomsey Racing / KMF), Aiden Wagner (YRD / XXX Rated Suspension / Wagner Soil Testing Yamaha) and Kyle Buckley (LAE Racing / XXX Rated Susp. / Motorcycle Accessory Shop Yamaha) in formation).

Alastair HoogenBoezem (Cube Racing / Australian Outdoor Living / Leda / Weld West Suzuki) and Brendan Clarke (Champion’s Ride Days / Child’s Dream Honda) rounded out the race two top 10.

Aaron Gobert (WNR Kawasaki / Dunlop / Alpinestars / Bell Helmets / Dyno Test) was an early casualty, forced out with a clutch problem on the opening lap.
