Aussie Moto3 standout Jack Miller continues to demonstrate raw talent and a relentless attitude in the Moto3 ranks with a stunning start to his Sachsenring race.

Miller managed to qualify his FTR Honda in the top five, with a better grid position going begging as he was held up in a flying lap in the closing stages.

He made a good start from the second row and found himself in second as the leaders jostled for track position in the undulating opening sector.

The Australian rider settled comfortably into third behind Alex Rins and Luis Salom and was able to hold position for a number of laps as Maverick Vinales bought into the battle.

With his Honda lacking the top-end speed of the KTMs around him, Miller was forced to take a tow from his rivals and lamented the chance to challenge as his rhythm was interrupted by a change of position ahead of him.

“I was braking very late into turn one to make up the gap I was losing on the straight,” said Miller. “I was faster than them in the first section but I was losing time up the hill through those fast lefts and then down the hill.

“Salom passed Vinales and Vinales got pushed wide and into my braking line. I had nowhere to go, I had to stand the bike up and release the brakes.

“I was too wide from there and already I’d lost nearly a second. As soon as I lost the slipstream it was game over.”

The top three soon moved away from the pack and Miller found himself bundled back to an eventual finish of seventh place.

The Australian rider was the first of his brand home and over 8 seconds clear of the next Honda chassis, a commendable result given the challenges he faced.

“Some goals were made today but sure we still want the next one,” he concluded, alluding to his ambitions of a maiden Moto3 podium.

Miller moves to seventh on the Moto3 world standings as the category prepares for a brief break ahead of the next round in the United States.
