Robbie Bugden has led a dramatic Team Suzuki turnaround on the second day of Australian Superbike Championship qualifying at Sydney Motorsport Park, securing round five pole position with a 1m29.842 lap to topple Glenn Allerton’s benchmark from 24 hours ago.

The Queensland Raceway victor saved the best until last in the final five-rider shootout for Superpole, wrestling his Suzuki GSX-R1000 to the lead in the closing stages.

Also beneath the 1m30s barrier was teammate Wayne Maxwell, who registered a 1m29.877 effort on his second-last attempt.

The result means Bugden will start from pole for Sunday’s round five races in what is a double-duty weekend for all competitors.

Next Gen Motorsports’ Glenn Allerton qualified in third place, ahead of Team Honda Racing’s Jamie Stauffer.

Josh Hook heads up the second row on the second Team Honda Fireblade, less than a tenth of a second ahead of InsureMyRide Racing’s Glenn Scott.

Phil Lovett slotted the lone Kawasaki ZX-10R in the Superbike field into seventh, followed by CM Racing’s Chas Hern, New Zealand BMW rider Sloan Frost, and Racers Edge Performance rider Beau Beaton.

Ben Henry (Cube Racing Suzuki), Linden Magee (Next Gen Motorsports BMW) and Adam Senior (Honda) occupy the final places on the grid.

A five-way Yamaha R6 battle into Superpole three for the Motul Supersport class was won by points leader Daniel Falzon.

The Jon Daniels Racing Caterpillar EPSA Yamaha of Falzon was a clear 0.635s quicker than Aiden Wagner, with Michael Blair taking third and Aaron Morris taking fourth.

Row two is led by round four pole sitter Callum Spriggs, from Kyle Buckley, Ryan Taylor and Aaron Gobert, the first Kawasaki ZX-6R home.

After two days of qualifying for the respective rounds, competitors now turn their attention to racing, with the Superbike and Supersport classes to contest a pair of 12-lap battles each tomorrow.
