IDM German Superbike Championship points leader Damian Cudlin will attempt to take part in the series’ fifth round at Schleiz despite nursing a broken left tibia from his Suzuka 8 Hour practice crash a week ago.

The Australian rider heads into the weekend with a four-point lead over Markus Reiterberger, and is determined to attempt to protect his slender advantage.

Cudlin’s lead had already been whittled down by virtue of a non-finish in the second IDM Superbike race at the Red Bull Ring, where a braking issue caused him to crash out and prevented him from registering a single point.

He retains a positive outlook at his chances this weekend despite the nature of the injuries he will need to manage.

“I will definitely try it [to race] in Schleiz,” he said. “Then I would have my team already cut off the broken leg completely before I miss the first practice.

“I want to win this championship!”

Cudlin’s RAC Racing Team have modified the BMW S 1000 RR to help the Aussie best manage the discomfort he will undoubtedly face will racing. The modifications include the fitment of a special lever which will assist in gear changes.

IDM racer Gareth Jones has assisted Cudlin for the week, acting as “taxi driver” for his fellow Aussie.
