Team InsureMyRide Racing rookie Glenn Scott is hopeful of building upon the form that saw him take the fight up to and past favoured factory riders to achieve his first Australian Superbike Championship podium finish on the weekend.

The Supersport class graduate has committed himself to making gains each time he hits the track, and on Sunday he realised a significant career goal by making the race one podium at Sydney Motorsport Park.

The 21-year-old rider described the meet as the “best weekend of [his] career”, and hoped it could lead to further podium success in the second half of the season.

A good start to Sunday’s opening race of round five saw the young gun battling in fourth before making the decisive move for top three finish.

“It was amazing to step into the 1m30s times,” said Scott. “It was unreal to finish on the podium and be so competitive with the factory riders, and to be the first Honda home really capped off a great race.”

The elation was evident for Scott’s team, who celebrated the result on pit wall as the yellow Fireblade crossed the finish line.

And while rival riders turned the wick up for the second race, a solid sixth place finish bagged Scott more valuable points and allowed him to extend his lead in the privateer championship.

“I can’t thank the entire InsureMyRide Racing team enough,” said Scott. “Their work this weekend has been incredible, now my focus is on Darwin and to continue these great results.

“It is the product of so much hard work on and off the track. I am fortunate to be surrounded by people who are all helping me to work towards my goal.”

He moves 20 points clear of Linden Magee on the outright standings in sixth, and is 30 points clear of the BMW rider on the privateer table.
