Team Suzuki manager Phil Tainton rates last weekend’s Sydney Motorsport Park round of the Australian Superbike Championship as one of the team’s greatest ever performances.

Wayne Maxwell swept all four Superbike races upon the ASBK’s return to Sydney, with teammate Robbie Bugden claiming second overall in what was a double-header round.

On top of that the team became the first ever domestic Superbikes to lap under the elusive 1m30 barrier with both Bugden and Maxwell recording near identical 1m29.8 lap times during Superpole for Sunday’s fifth round.

For Tainton it was a weekend to remember, seizing the top two championship positions in the process with just two rounds remaining in 2013.

“Being a double-header, this weekend would have to go down as one of our best ever,” Tainton said. “We’ve had 1-2 finishes before with Gilesy [Shawn Giles] and Craig Coxhell from memory, which is just a great feeling.

“To have these two guys running around at the front is just so exciting and nerve-racking at the same time. It rates so high and obviously would be the highest rating weekend of our career, for sure.”

With Maxwell now maintaining a 24-point lead in the standings ahead of Bugden and Next Gen BMW’s dual champion Glenn Allerton, Tainton maintains that no team orders will be set in place in a bid to claim back-to-back premier class crowns.

“There are definitely no team orders at this point of the championship,” he added. “They’re both in the hunt for the championship, so all I was hoping was that they didn’t make a mistake or for an accident to happen. My heart was pounding the whole time they were in front!”

Team Suzuki wrapped up last year’s Superbike title with two-time champion Josh Waters before he departed to British Superbikes for this season.
