Australian Prostock Championship points leader, Kawasaki’s Matt Walters is quietly confident that he can maintain his current run of form and hopes to close out the season having not lost a round.

The New South Welshman has banked the maximum haul of points on offer from all but one of the rounds contested to date, claiming 274 points from a possible 279 in what can only be described as a dominant showing.

Walters identifies last weekend’s double header as his standout showing for the season, and is hoping he can replicate the form across the series’ final two events.

“It was really good to race at Sydney Motorsport Park and it really was the perfect weekend for us,” Waters told CycleOnline.com.au after winning all six races on offer.

“We went in there pretty confident but still knew it would be tough work. The Kawasaki is obviously the standout bike in the class in the moment and really works well at that track.”

Walters took pole position for both rounds and went on to collect all of the available 152 points on offer, along with setting new qualifying and race lap records.

He will take a considerable 104-point lead to Hidden Valley’s sixth round of competition next month, but is determined not to be complacent.

“I’m looking forward to going up to the Northern Territory and trying hard to win each race,” he added. “The competition is improving each round so it’s important we keep on track with our goals.

“If possible we’ll build up a bit of a buffer and make things a bit easier for ourselves for the final round.

“If we can wrap things up then that would be great, but we’ll just take each race as it comes and let that sort itself out.”

Walters has won 10 of the 11 Prostock races contested, the only blemish on his copybook a second-place finish behind fellow ZX-10R rider Sean Condon at Queensland Raceway.
