Factory Suzuki top early Oschersleben WEC qualifying, Parkes quickest individual

The Suzuki Endurance Racing Team (SERT) and the Monster Energy Yamaha Austria Racing Team (YART) have gone head-to-head in a battle for provisional pole at the 8 Hours of Oschersleben in Germany.

The Suzuki Endurance Racing Team (SERT) and the Monster Energy Yamaha Austria Racing Team (YART) have gone head-to-head in a battle for provisional pole at the 8 Hours of Oschersleben in Germany.

YART’s line of of Aussies Broc Parkes and Josh Waters, along with Igor Jerman, were the early pacesetters in free practice, with Parkes delivering a solid series of fast laps late in the piece to move the team to the top of the table with a 1m27.013 effort.

Suzuki’s factory effort turned the tables in first qualifying, with Vincent Philippe, Anthony Delhalle and Julien Da Costa putting in a combined effort of 1m26.903, versus YART’s averaged 1m27.168, to take provisional pole.

Parkes was easily the quickest rider on track, setting a 1m26.147 lap, around four-tenths quicker than Vincent’s best effort.

Third-quickest for the outing was the Yamaha France GMT94 squad of David Checa, Kenny Foray and Maxime Berger, with an average lap of 1m27.985.

Damian Cudlin was back in action for BMW Motorrad France Team Thevent, assisting the team’s efforts to secure fourth.

Further qualifying will continue later today ahead of Saturday’s eight-hour race which begins at 1.00pm local time and runs until 9.00pm under lights.

Oschersleben is the penultimate event on the World Endurance Championship calendar.
