MotoGP World Championship contenders Dani Pedrosa and Jorge Lorenzo say they are both shy of full fitness heading into the season’s second-half at Indianapolis this weekend.

Repsol Honda’s Pedrosa and Yamaha Factory Racing’s Lorenzo both suffered broken collarbones in the grands prix prior to the Summer break, and have faced a difficult road to recovery as they attempted to salvage points where possible.

Pedrosa’s injury was later confirmed as a complete break, rather than the partial fracture initially diagnosed.

He has used the time away from the track to recover and undergo an intensive physiotherapy regime but admits he is still not at the desired level of fitness heading into the race at the Brickyard.

“I’ve had time to relax with some friends and have also had lots of physiotherapy on my shoulder to prepare myself for this second part of the season,” explained Pedrosa. “I’ve had a medical check in the last days and we can see the bone getting stronger.

“It still needs a few more weeks to recover completely but my feeling is already much better than in Laguna. It’s important to remain focused, especially now as we have three races in a row.”

Pedrosa is currently 16 points shy of teammate Marc Marquez in the title race.

Fellow Spaniard Lorenzo is also wary of the upcoming grand prix and the closely-scheduled races that follow immediately afterwards.

He’s a further 10 points back from Pedrosa and hopes to come away with solid points this weekend.

“I was able to rest for some days after Laguna Seca and then we went to Brno to make a private test with Yamaha,” said Lorenzo. “Those two days gave me an opportunity to check my physical condition.

“I’m a bit tired, especially because after two crashes in Assen and Sachsenring I couldn’t recover so much and now we have to manage a long period with three races in a row.

“I feel better obviously than in Laguna but still need time to recover to 100 percent and it is not going to be easy because the calendar is so busy and also we have to fight not to lose points.”

Lorenzo has finished on the Indy podium on all but one occasion, when he managed fourth in 2011.
