The Suzuki Endurance Racing Team (SERT) has extended its World Endurance Championship points advantage with back-to-back wins at the Oschersleben 8 Hour in Germany.

Vincent Philippe, Anthony Delhalle and Julien Da Costa guided the factory entry to a two-lap win over the BMW Motorrad France Team Thevent lineup of Sébastien Gimbert, Erwan Nigon and Aussie Damian Cudlin.

The Monster Energy Yamaha Austria Racing Team (YART) squad, featuring Aussies Broc Parkes and Josh Waters, claimed a strong third place after leading for much of the race.

Parkes was the race pacesetter, lapping around eight-tenths quicker than any other rider on track in the latter stages of the endurance marathon.

YART had been in line for second place before a mishap during the re-fuelling period saw flames engulf the R1.

“We were battling for second,” said Parkes. “I jumped on the bike and there was a bit of petrol still on the tank. They tried to wipe it but the bike caught on fire unfortunately.

“At first I thought it was going to go out but it flared up again. I kind of laid the bike over and the fire was put out quickly.

“We did a great job today so it’s just a bit unlucky that we couldn’t get a better finish as the fight for second with BMW was really close.”

The Kawasaki ZX-10R of Bolliger Team Switzerland finished on the same lap as YART, with the Yamaha France GMT 94 squad claiming fifth after recovering from a crash early in the race.

The Franks Autowelt Racing Team BMW S 1000 R was the leading Superstock entry, seven laps down on the eventual winners.
