Sole Aussie Moto2 runner Ant West admits his Indianapolis Grand Prix campaign lacked the necessary level of focus for a points finish, a facet he hopes to improve for this weekend’s Brno race.

The QMMF Racing Team pilot experienced mixed results in free practice, climbing as high as 12th in the second session before dropping to 26th ahead of qualifying.

West secured a start from 23rd in the race and made a trademark fast start to climb to 17th, but began to struggle to string consistent laps together and lost track position as a result.

“My start was okay, but in the beginning I just was not able to do any decent lap times,” he admitted. “I don’t know why, I just found it hard to really concentrate properly this weekend.

“I was a bit lost on the first laps and couldn’t do good lap times. As the race went on, I started to go faster, but the group was already gone and any chance of making some good points was already too far away.

“I was sort of stuck with the group I was with and I was able to fight with them and lead them to the end of the race.”

The QMMF Racing Team brought a new swingarm online for the Speed Up chassis in Indianapolis, and West is hopeful it may bring a boost in results from Brno onwards.

“I was using the new swingarm all weekend, but it’s difficult to predict how much of an advantage it will give us on other tracks, because Indianapolis is so strange with its different surfaces,” he said.

“We will continue to use the new swingarm at the next race in Brno and I hope it is an improvement there, too.

“The team is doing a great job and the bike is working pretty well, but I just need to concentrate more and try to be a bit more focussed on my racing.”

West has achieved four top 10 finishes from nine starts in 2013, and currently sits a solid 15th on the Moto2 points ladder.
