Australia’s Josh Waters looks set to part ways with Milwaukee Yamaha at the conclusion of a difficult debut season in the British Superbike Championship (BSB).

The two-time Australian Superbike Champion was secured by Shaun Muir’s squad to race a Yamaha R1 in the BSB ranks for 2013, considered by many to be the world’s most challenging domestic Superbike series.

Waters made a solid start to the campaign and took the task of learning an all-new series of circuits and the transition to a brand new bike in his stride.

Unfortunately a handful of crashes early in the piece appeared to dent the Aussie’s confidence, and Muir, while not contesting Waters’ effort and commitment, admitted the results had not reached the level that was required by the team sponsors.

“I’m desperately sorry for him because he’s trying so hard, over-trying almost, and it’s not going for him,” Muir told Crash.net. “He’s blindingly fast on a Superbike but not on an R1.

“I feel bad for the lad and he’s a great kid but nice lads don’t win races and it’s a results business. Results are what get me sponsors.”

Muir conceded that Waters’ tough debut season would likely result in the team opting for a different pilot for its second Superbike for next season.

“We’re not going to hide behind the fact that Josh is not going to reach the heights we thought he’d reach in British Superbikes,” he continued.

“We’ll finish the job and move on. We need a rider that can put it in the top six and Josh isn’t doing that.”

Waters’ best results of the season thus far have been seventh and ninth places, achieved at Snetterton. He currently sits 15th on the BSB points ladder.
