MotoGP World Championship points leader Marc Marquez could do little to contain his delight in winning the Grand Prix of the Czech Republic against his two title rivals at full fitness.

Marquez had taken the three previous GP wins on offer as defending champion Jorge Lorenzo and teammate and title favourite Dani Pedrosa both battled collarbone injuries.

The Brno race was to be a test of form and fitness, and with all three riders able to push to their peak, there would be little to separate each rider.

Lorenzo may have made the best start to the battle but Marquez was focused on the war. Running second from the start, he towed Pedrosa with him as they set about challenging and then passing the Yamaha who had little to offer in terms of defines.

Marquez now moves beyond a complete GP victory in terms of his points advantage, and the prospect of a rookie title is now much more than a pipe dream.

“I’m so happy!” said Marquez. “Before we came here I didn’t expect to win, because Jorge and Valentino had both tested at Brno recently and Dani is always so fast here and won the race last year.

“It is a completely different track from those at which we have raced before, and these 25 points feel different to Indianapolis.”

The Spanish rider said he fought hard and relished the chance to go head-to-head with Lorenzo on even terms once more.

“This was a very hard-fought win and I enjoyed myself a lot. The battle with Jorge was really good and we are pleased with the victory.”

Marquez now moves 44 points clear of Lorenzo after the 11th of 18 grands prix on the 2013 schedule.

His feat marks the first time a rookie rider has ever secured five wins in their debut showing.
