Milwaukee Yamaha team owner Shaun Muir noted the commitment shown by embattled Aussie Josh Waters at Cadwell Park, and was pleased by the British Superbike Championship (BSB) rookie’s solid progress forwards.

The dual Australian Superbike Champion has only been able to show flashes of the form he displayed at the domestic level, with team boss Muir recently remarking that he felt Waters was trying too hard to deliver results.

Waters rode to a solid 12th place in the opening 18-lap race at Cadwell Park, but was able to make headway on setup to fight his way to a battle for a top six finish, eventually taking eighth.

“[Josh] found it hard earlier in the weekend but turned it around in the races and was lapping at a better pace and was really digging deep so I am pleased with his performance today,” said Muir.

The Aussie’s best laps were turned in race conditions as he learned the nuances of the circuit, a strong representation of his ability to improve given adequate track time.

“[Race day] was much better and I wanted more than twelfth after the first race so we made some changes for race two and we were able to finish eighth,” said Waters.

“I did some good laps in the second race, my best here at Cadwell Park, so I was happy with that especially as I felt more comfortable on the Milwaukee Yamaha.

“We have made some improvements this weekend and that was the aim for me as this track is one of the toughest on the calendar.”

Waters has scored points for the last nine races and will aim to build upon his current standing of 14th over the season’s final four rounds.
