Leading Aussie British Superbike battler Josh Brookes has reflected on the crash that cost him the win in the weekend’s second race at Cadwell Park, and maintains making the move for the lead was a better choice than settling for second.

The Tyco Suzuki rider made a blistering start to race two, taking the lead early, only to be relegated to second by race one winner and form rider Alex Lowes.

But Brookes stayed close and on the final lap sensed a chance to move by the Samsung Honda.

He put a clean pass on Lowes into the Park corner and looked to have sealed the win before he tucked the front of his bike in a minor low-speed crash.

“After I made a mistake over the Mountain I hunted [Tommy] Bridewell down and the pass on Alex Lowes on the last lap was pretty easy to be honest, as I got good drive out of Charlie’s and was quicker all race into Park, making up loads of ground,” said Brookes.

“I just tucked the front a couple of corners after that but I’m not hurt, the bike’s not too badly damaged and we only lost three podium credits.”

The tenacious Aussie is never one to back away from a challenge and while admitting the mistake, said he felt going for the pass was still the right decision.

“I’ve run it over in my head a thousand times since it happened and the bottom line is, I got into the lead and just messed up,” he added. “But in hindsight it was better to have a go at the win.”

Brookes is one of three riders already confirmed within the ‘Title Fighters’ rankings, and is hopeful of recovering lost ground at the next round at Donington Park.
