Motorcycling Australia (MA) CEO David White has confirmed that the Motorcycle Road Race Development Association (MRRDA) has entered negotiations to become the Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) promoter as of next season.

MA is yet to formalise its plans for the 2014 ASBK series, which will come down to the MRRDA and current promoter International Entertainment Group (IEG) in a decision to be cemented early next week according to White.

Potential merger negotiations with rival national FX-Superbike (AFX-SBK) series promoter Australian Road and Track Rider Promotions (ARTRP) ceased earlier this month, resulting in ARTRP confirming it will run the AFX-SBK series standalone once again next season (click here for details).

It was then anticipated that IEG would be quickly confirmed in a continuation of the current structure in a mere formality, however White today has since revealed that the MRRDA is also a potential candidate.

“We are yet to finalise anything, that’s what the delay is,” White told CycleOnline.com.au this afternoon. “I had a link up with the board last night and at this stage there’s some work I’ve got to prepare over the weekend.

“At this stage we will be making an announcement either Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning.”

It is understood the MRRDA entered negotiations at the 11th hour. That organisation rose to prominence in 2007 when it launched a series largely based around junior competition under the management of Paul Edwards.

“That’s no secret,” White said when questioned regarding the MRRDA’s proposed interest in promoting the series.

Current ASBK contenders who have climbed through the ranks from within the MRRDA series include standout Team Honda Racing Superbike rookie Josh Hook, current Supersport series leader Daniel Falzon and Prostock title favourite Matt Walters, among others.
