Redding to replace Staring at GO&FUN Honda Gresini next season

Moto2 title contender Scott Redding has landed a Gresini Honda MotoGP contract.

Moto2 title contender Scott Redding has landed a Gresini Honda MotoGP contract.

Current Moto2 World Championship leader Scott Redding has officially signed for Team GO&FUN Honda Gresini ahead of the 2014 season, clinching a two-year deal that will see the promising young British rider on-board the Japanese factory’s new ‘Production Racer’.

The high profile signing, which was first speculated last month, comes on the eve of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone this weekend and confirms that Australian Bryan Staring will depart the Italian-based team at season’s end.

“I am looking forward to the challenge of MotoGP next season,” 20-year-old Redding said. “I’ll be racing alongside the best riders in the world, aboard the brand new Honda RCV1000R, so I know already how steep a learning curve it’s going to be.

“This was why it was so important to me that I made this step with an experienced team, and there are few more experienced in the MotoGP paddock than Team GO&FUN Honda Gresini.

“But my focus now is on winning the Moto2 World Championship for Marc van der Straten, without whose support over the past four years I wouldn’t even have been given this opportunity to move up to the premier class.”

Team owner Fausto Gresini is delighted to have Redding on board in a pivotal year for the team upon Honda’s introduction of the RCV1000R.

“I’m delighted to be able to work with a young talent like Scott Redding,” Gresini said. “We have signed a two-year contract together, with the clear aim of building an ambitious project that should see him develop and be taken to the pinnacle of MotoGP.

“Scott has already shown that he has a lot of quality and so we are proud to welcome him into our team. We cannot wait to begin working with him, his riding style is great to watch, as is his approach to racing.”

Spaniard Alvaro Bautista will remain part of the team on the RC213V prototype in a contract extension.

Staring’s future is unknown at this point, following a frustrating first season in MotoGP aboard the Honda-powered FTR in the CRT ranks.
