Marc Marquez has scored his fifth pole position of his rookie MotoGP campaign and will lead the field away in Sunday’s British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

The Repsol Honda rider’s 2m00.691 lap beat the 2m00.819 effort laid down by Friday pacesetter, Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jorge Lorenzo.

Monster Tech3 Yamaha was third, claiming another front row start despite two major crashes in the morning practice session.

Stefan Bradl improved upon his slow start to grab fourth, ahead of Marquez’ teammate Dani Pedrosa, who was pushing for a top time when he lost the front momentarily and had to abort the lap.

The second row is completed by Valentino Rossi on the second factory Yamaha, with row three consisting of Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati), Alvaro Bautista (Gresini Honda) and Nicky Hayden (Ducati).

NGM Mobile Forward Racing’s Colin Edwards was the top CRT qualifier, with regular frontrunner Aleix Espargaro out of the running after injuring his neck and some fingers in a crash in the final practice session.

Aussie Bryan Staring rounds out the grid in 23rd, confident in the bike beneath him but struggling to best interpret the track.

Japan’s Takaaki Nakagami will start from the head of field in the Moto2 class, his second consecutive pole position in the space of just seven days.

The Italtrans Racing Team rider’s 2m07.039 lap just edged out the Marc VDS machine of Scott Redding, who will start from second after lapping just 0.039 seconds in arrears.

Johann Zarco continues his solid run with third, and rounds out the front row of the grid on the Came Ioda Racing Project Suter.

The Tuenti HP 40 machines of Esteve Rabat and Pol Espargaro bookend Thom Luthi on row two, with Mika Kallio, Dominique Aegerter, Xavier Simeon and Jordi Torres completing the top 10.

Aussie Jason O’Halloran completed his first Moto2 qualifying session in 24th in his guest ride aboard the JiR Moto2 Motobi chassis, while countryman Ant West set the 28th fastest time on his QMMF Racing Team machine.

Maverick Vinales put his Team Calvo entry on pole in the Moto3 class, beating last year’s benchmark lap in the class by an incredible 2.5 seconds.

Alongside him on the front row will be Alex Rins and Luis Salom, while Aussie Jack Miller was again impressive, qualifying his Caretta Technology – RTG Honda in fourth.

Fellow Aussie Arthur Sissis will have a fight on his hands for the race after qualifying his Red Bull KTM Ajo machine in 18th.
