Monster Tech3 Yamaha’s Cal Crutchlow will undergo a medical assessment to determine if he has sustained any serious or lasting injuries from a bruising home grand prix at Silverstone.

The fan favourite’s dry spell on home soil continued, with three significant crashes in the lead-up to the race proving costly.

Amazingly he managed to achieve front row grid slot after two crashes on Saturday, one of which caused particular concern for his right arm.

The resulting pain and discomfort saw him drop to a lonely seventh, a disappointing result by his own admission.

“It certainly wasn’t the easiest race I have ever done and it is disappointing that I couldn’t challenge; but after the crashes I just had no power at all in my right arm and I was also lacking grip at the start when the tyres were cold,” said Crutchlow.

“The only positive we can take away is that we have been faster than last year – but it’s definitely less than what I hoped for when we arrived at the track on Wednesday.”

Further concerns were raised for the Brit after his right arm ballooned with fluid the day after the race.

The next step is to determine whether any serious injury is being masked by the swelling.

“It is double the size it should be and there is obviously a reason why there is fluid in it and that’s because I had a big impact on it,” continued Crutchlow. “Something has obviously gone wrong inside it and so I need to have a look.

“I just need to make sure I get it sorted to be ready for Misano. But after the three crashes it will be good to have a few days off.”

He has just over nine days to determine the cause and prove his fitness ahead of Misano.
