International Entertainment Group (IEG) will continue as the promoter of the Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) in 2014, as confirmed today by Motorcycling Australia (MA).

It is understood MA had put off its decision, due to come early last week, to consider applications for the promoter role from other parties.

MA president Stephen Foody outlined some of the key conditions placed upon the promoter’s role.

“There will be significant key performance indicators as part of the rights contract and these indicators will be reviewed on a regular basis but at a minimum both prior to and after each round,” said Foody.

“It is vitally important we get the Superbike rules right but it is a complicated issue.

“We have to balance cost effective racing for our participants, whether they are part of a sponsored team or individuals racing primarily out of their own pockets, against a realistic need for parity amongst the various makes.

“Furthermore rules must accommodate the need for a rigorous technical compliance regime that strives to eliminate rumour and innuendo regarding cheating.

“Rules need to be fair and equitable whilst providing the opportunities of exciting racing,” he added.

A set of technical rules will be completed prior to 31 October, 2013, with MA noting that changes would take into account the new set of rules at world championship level.

MA will play a more direct part in the on-ground activities at ASBK rounds, with a number of staff, including a yet to be appointed technical officer, on hand.

A committee to oversee the activities with stakeholder representation will also be established for the 2014 season.
