Ducati has pulled the covers off its all-new 899 Panigale Superbike, described as a ‘super mid’ version of its highly-acclaimed 1199 Panigale model.

Intended as a new way to access Ducati’s flagship Superbike range, the 2014 machine packs a similar punch to its more powerful counterparts, with the “refined character of an everyday streebike.”

At the heart of the 899 is the new 148 horsepower Superquado engine featuring a revised bore and stroke for a broad range of power delivery.

The new bike features the Panigale’s renowned monocoque construction and impressive power-to-weight ratio, tipping the scales at an agile 169 kilograms.

Quick shift technology, ride-by-wire, triple-stage ABS, traction and engine brake control are carried over from the 1199, with Ducati describing its new offering as a mix of “all-round performance for connoisseurs with an authentic and stylish way to enter the world of high performance.”

The 899 Panigale will be available in traditional Ducati red with black wheels, or a striking arctic white, set off by red wheels.

The international release date is set for late October, with availability in Australia not yet specified.
